HAWKSMOOR'S TWIN TOWERS IN THE NORTH QUADRANGLE OF ALL SOULS

HAWKSMOOR'S TWIN TOWERS IN THE NORTH QUADRANGLE OF ALL SOULS

All Souls is a Post-Graduate Society of Fellows and unique among the colleges. It was founded as a war memorial, that masses might be said for ever for those who fell at Agincourt. The full title is the "College of All the Souls of the Faithful Departed." The founder was Archbishop Chichele, a follower of William of Wykeham and a Fellow of New College and, later, Archbishop of Canterbury. Henry VI agreed to subscribe himself as joint founder. The North Quadrangle contains the famous twin towers erected by Wren's pupil Hawksmoor
