THE JOURNEY'S END AT GEORGE SQUARE, GLASGOW: GRETNA GREEN

Glasgow's municipal buildings, erected at a cost of over 500,000, stand in George Square, in which are also the Bank of Scotland and the post office. The great building where the city affairs are transacted is planned on a magnificent scale with a council chamber and banqueting hall. In the centre a tower rises 100 feet above the main parapet of the structure. In the foreground is the Scott monument. I he toll house (top) at Gretna is the first house over the border by this road, and once celebrated for marrying runaway couples
