HOMES OF PILGRIM FATHERS AT SCROOBY AND AUSTERFIELD

HOMES OF PILGRIM FATHERS AT SCROOBY AND AUSTERFIELD

This part of England produced several men who were to be prominent in the great venture to the New World where religious freedom could be had. Scrooby (bottom) is in the north of Nottinghamshire, not far from Gainsborough. At the manor house of Scrooby lived William Brewster, one of the Pilgrim Fathers. In the church are tablets placed there by the Pilgrim Society of Plymouth, Mass. Near by, in southern Yorkshire, is Austerfield (top), whose manor was the home of William Bradford, second governor of Plymouth, New England.
