BATH OF A ROMAN VILLA IN THE STRAND

BATH OF A ROMAN VILLA IN THE STRAND

On the south side of the Strand, near the church of S. Mary-le-Strand, is a narrow entry called Strand Lane. This site would have been well outside Roman London, which ended at the Holebourne river. There seems to have been a country villa here on the hill overlooking the Thames. Its tiled bath, fed by a natural spring, has survived and is open to the public.
