THE NORTHERN SHORES OF WINDERMERE AND THE SCA FELL PIKES

THE NORTHERN SHORES OF WINDERMERE AND THE SCA FELL PIKES

Below Ambleside is the village of Waterhead (bottom), at the north end of Windermere, England's largest lake, which is about a mile wide at its broadest and some ten miles long. Waterhead is the centre for boating at this end of Windermere and the landing-stage for the steamboat service. A wonderful view (top) of Sea Fell Pike, the highest mountain in England, rising to 3,210 feet, and of Esk Hause, the central height of the Sea Fell group, is to be had from our view-point here, the Roman Camp at the top of Hardknott above Eskdale.
