THE DEW-PONDS FOR SHEEP AND CATTLE OF THE SUSSEX DOWNS

THE DEW-PONDS FOR SHEEP AND CATTLE OF THE SUSSEX DOWNS

One dew-pond, by a golf course (bottom) near Lewes, has a most impressive setting in a hollow of the downs behind Mount Caburn, which rises up above the head of the little valley leading up from the pond. In the left centre of the view, far away, rises the shoulder of Firle Beacon. The middle photograph shows a dew-pond above Newhaven and near Telscombe. In the distance is the chalk mass of Seaford Head. At Chanctonbury Ring (top) the dew-pond has maintained its water, despite droughts, for forty-five years.
