GLASGOW'S GREAT PAGEANT OF "THE STORY OF THE WEST" HELD AT GARSCUBE

GLASGOW'S GREAT PAGEANT OF

In June, 1928, Glasgow organized, in aid of local philanthropy, an eight-day pageant called " The Story of the West " in the grounds of Garscube, a charming manor-park on the outskirts of the city. The Prince of Wales graced the occasion with his presence, and, despite weather that was often deplorable, the success of this brightly coloured show of history in costume proved the national appeal of this kind of entertainment when it is really well done. Our photograph shows an incident in the third episode where Queen Anne, wife of James VI, is arriving in her litter, attended by the ladies of the Court. Other scenes depicted were the landing of Vikings and the restoring of Queen Languoreth's betrothal ring by S. Mungo, Glasgow's patron saint.
