Of the Earl of Peterborough, who achieved such brilliant successes in Spain as a cavalry leader in the War of the Spanish Succession, there seem to be no memorials. Nor is the greatest soldier this country ever bred, the great Duke of Marlborough, of course, commemorated otherwise than by the military college which bears his name and by Sir John Vanbrugh's massive pile, Blenheim Palace, which celebrated his greatest victory. | ||||||
